Baby Chiropractor Norwich: Gentle Care for Your Little One
When your baby is unsettled, struggling with colic, not sleeping, or seems uncomfortable after feeding, it is exhausting for everyone. You have tried everything the health visitor suggested. Nothing has worked. And you are starting to wonder if something deeper is going on.
That instinct is worth listening to. The birth process, even a straightforward one, places significant physical stress on a baby’s spine and nervous system. Sometimes that stress creates tension patterns that show up as colic, reflux, disturbed sleep, or general unsettledness. And sometimes, gentle chiropractic care is the thing that makes the difference.
Why Babies Need Chiropractic Care
Birth is the most physically demanding event of a baby’s life. Whether it was a natural delivery, assisted with forceps or ventouse, or a caesarean section, the forces involved can create tension in the baby’s spine, neck, and cranial bones.
This tension is not an injury. It is more like a pattern that the body holds onto. Think of it as a knot in a system that is still learning to regulate itself. That tension can affect the nervous system, which in turn affects digestion, sleep, muscle tone, and comfort.
Most of the time, babies adapt and the tension resolves naturally. But when it does not, you see a baby who cries more than expected, struggles to feed on one side, arches their back, has difficulty sleeping, or seems generally uncomfortable. These are not random behaviours. They are signals.
What Does a Baby Chiropractor Actually Do?
This is the question every parent asks, and rightly so. Chiropractic care for babies looks nothing like chiropractic care for adults. There is no cracking, no twisting, and no forceful movements.
The techniques used on babies are incredibly gentle. The pressure involved is roughly the same as what you would comfortably apply to your own eyelid. Dr Luke uses fingertip contacts to assess areas of tension in the baby’s spine and cranium, then applies light, sustained pressure to help the body release those tension patterns.
Babies often relax during treatment. Many fall asleep. Parents frequently comment on how calm and settled their baby becomes during and after the session.
Conditions That Respond Well to Baby Chiropractic
Colic. Excessive, inconsolable crying that follows no clear pattern. Often linked to tension in the upper neck and its effect on the vagus nerve, which governs digestion. Gentle chiropractic care can help calm the nervous system and reduce colic symptoms.
Reflux. Frequent spitting up, discomfort during or after feeding, and arching of the back. Tension in the mid spine and diaphragm area can contribute to reflux by affecting how the stomach and oesophagus function. Releasing that tension often leads to noticeable improvement.
Difficulty feeding or latching. If your baby struggles to turn their head to one side or has a preferred feeding side, there may be tension in the upper cervical spine restricting movement. This is particularly common after assisted deliveries.
Unsettled sleep. A baby who cannot get comfortable, wakes frequently, or only sleeps in certain positions may be holding tension that prevents them from fully relaxing. Chiropractic care supports the nervous system’s ability to switch into rest mode.
Flat head (plagiocephaly) and torticollis. A preference for turning the head to one side can lead to flattening of the skull. Addressing the underlying neck tension early can help correct the head turning preference and support more symmetrical development.

Is It Safe?
Yes. Paediatric chiropractic techniques are extremely gentle and have an excellent safety profile. Dr Luke has completed specific postgraduate training in caring for babies and children. The techniques used are adapted entirely to the baby’s size, age, and comfort.
You will be with your baby throughout the entire appointment. Dr Luke will explain everything before he does it, and nothing happens without your consent. If at any point your baby is distressed, the session is paused or stopped.
Research published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics has shown that adverse events from paediatric chiropractic care are extremely rare, and the techniques used are among the gentlest in manual therapy.
What to Expect at Your Baby’s First Visit
The appointment starts with a detailed conversation about your baby’s birth, feeding, sleep, and any concerns you have. Dr Luke will then gently assess your baby’s spine, neck, and cranium, checking for areas of tension or restricted movement.
If treatment is appropriate, it will be carried out during the same visit. The whole appointment takes around 30 minutes. Most babies tolerate it very well, and many parents notice a change in their baby’s behaviour within the first 24 to 48 hours.
Follow up visits are shorter and are spaced based on how your baby responds. Some babies need just one or two sessions. Others benefit from a short series of visits. Dr Luke will give you an honest recommendation based on what he finds.
“We took our 6 week old to see Dr Luke for colic and reflux. After two gentle sessions the difference was remarkable. She was calmer, feeding better, and sleeping longer. We wish we had gone sooner.”
