Who Should Not Do Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is safe for the vast majority of people, but there are some conditions where spinal manipulation is not appropriate. At Chiropractor Norwich, a thorough examination is always carried out before treatment.

When Spinal Manipulation Is Not Appropriate
Spinal manipulation should not be performed in cases of fracture or dislocation in the area to be treated, active bone cancer affecting the spine, cauda equina syndrome, or severe vascular conditions affecting the spinal arteries.
⚠️ If you experience loss of bladder or bowel control alongside back pain, saddle anaesthesia (numbness between the legs), or progressive weakness in both legs, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Do not book a chiropractic appointment. Go to A&E or call 999.
When a Modified Approach May Be Needed
Severe Osteoporosis
High fracture risk requires gentler techniques. We screen for osteoporosis risk during the initial consultation and adapt treatment accordingly.
Inflammatory Arthritis Flare
Standard spinal manipulation during an active inflammatory flare is not appropriate. We assess inflammation status before treatment begins.
Recent Spinal Surgery
Patients who have had recent spinal surgery require a carefully adapted approach. We discuss surgical history during consultation.
Pregnancy
Chiropractic during pregnancy is safe when techniques are adapted for each trimester. Chiropractor Norwich offers specialist pregnancy chiropractic care.
How We Screen Every Patient
At Chiropractor Norwich, every new patient undergoes a full case history and examination before any treatment begins. We screen for all contraindications and red flags as standard. If chiropractic is not appropriate for your situation, we will tell you clearly and point you in the right direction.
If you are unsure whether chiropractic is suitable for you, call 07904 184524 and speak directly with the chiropractor before booking.
